WITCHER NETFLIX SEASON ONE REVIEW

WITCHER NETFLIX SEASON ONE REVIEW

The first season of The Witcher on Netflix is truly wonderful. Geralt, Yennefer, Ciri, and Jaskier are perfectly cast, the Witcher world is alive and fully fleshed out, fights are well choreographed, monsters are terrifying and memorable, and the story is true to the source material. Seriously, it is quite impressive how true the Netflix adaption is to the original books. The showrunners decided to follow the books rather than the video games for inspiration, because the games themselves are inspired by the book series. A helpful tip for new viewers; the first season of the Witcher features three different timelines, jumping between various points of interest in the stories of Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer, which concludes with them all on the same timeline at the end of the season, ready for the monumental events to come in Season Two.

The show’s impact has been nothing short of revolutionary, as the publisher of the book series has reprinted 500,000 more copies to meet the insane demand for the series, and the Witcher III video game had its highest ever player count, three years after its release. People have been looking for a dark fantasy epic to attach to since the divisive ending of Game of Thrones, and the Witcher has boldly stepped forward to fill that void. Season Two has already been publicly announced, as the viewer numbers just keep mounting at historic rates. I cannot recommend the show enough, and it will be a long wait for us all ‘til 2021 when Season Two comes out. In the mean-time, watch the first season again, play through the game series, and read the books. They are all phenomenal and worth the time. (Oh, by the way, the song “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher” will now be stuck in you head for months; you’re welcome.)
