VIDEO GAME AWARDS REVEALS

XBOX SERIES X & SENUA’S SAGA: HELLBLADE 2

One of the biggest surprises of the night went to Xbox Game Studios. Everyone knew going into next year that Project Scarlett would be released next Holiday, and it was widely assumed that more information would be revealed at E3 in July. The “mic drop moment” came when Phil Spencer walked onto stage to reveal the official name of the next gen Xbox (Xbox Series X) a whole six months ahead of when it was expected, along with the physical appearance of it, and the audience was floored. Not only did he show off Series X, but announced Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, a sequel to Ninja Theory’s masterpiece Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. The trailer was incredibly powerful and haunting, showing just a glimpse of the power of the beastly Series X. Next generation is going to be awesome for Xbox.

GHOST OF TSUSHIMA TRAILER

Previously teased a couple of days before, at PlayStation State of Play, Ghost of Tsushima had a glitzy trailer, and announced a release date of Summer 2020.

THE WOLF AMONG US 2

Besides the Xbox Series X and Hellblade 2 joint reveal, the resurrection of The Wolf Among Us 2 was the biggest surprise of the event. After the closure of Telltale, many assumed that this game would never see the light of day, but, Telltale and its IPS were purchased by a new company, and revived. The new owners of Telltale announced that they are collaborating with developers who worked on the title originally. This is the perfect possible scenario for the game, ensuring it lives again via new resources and studio, while keeping the original vision of its development team.

FAST & FURIOUS CROSSROADS

At the end of the award show, two cast members of the Fast & Furious Franchise revealed the first major video game installment of the series. The game will include both new characters and events, along with recreations of iconic saga moments.

GODFALL

A PS5 timed console exclusive from Gearbox, this looter slasher will allow as many as three players to team up cooperatively.

LEAGUE OF LEGENDS CONVERGENCE

Convergence is a new League of Legends story following popular champion Ekko.

LEAGUE OF LEGENDS RUINED KING

The Ruined King is a game being developed by the team behind Battle Chasers: Nightwar. This game is a new story set in the League of Legends universe.

BRAVELY DEFAULT 2

Bravely Default 2 was announced at the showcase. This title will be a Switch exclusive.

MAGIC: LEGENDS

A brand new MMO set in the Magic: The Gathering universe was announced, with PC Betas coming in 2020.

WEIRD WEST

A new RPG from the co-creators of Prey and Dishonored, was revealed at the VGAs. This game, Weird West is the first title from the brand new Wolfeye Studio.

DARK ALLIANCE

A spiritual successor to the popular Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance games, this Dungeons and Dragons title was announced at the event.

NINE TO FIVE

Red Hill Games announced Nine to Five, a team based tactical shooter. A PC Alpha test will occur in 2020.

PROLOGUE

PlayerUnknown teased a new game titled Prologue, which received a new trailer and website.

SONS OF THE FOREST

Endnight revealed a sequel to their terrifying Forest game. Sons of the Forest debuted with a spine-tingling trailer, and set the tone for what will surely be a dark, and horrifying adventure.

SURGEON SIMULATOR 2

A sequel to the hit VR game, Surgeon Simulator 2 was announced at the showcase.

NEW WORLD

Amazon Game Studios showed a trailer for their New World MMO.

APPLE ARCADE’S ULTIMATE RIVALS

Ultimate Rivals: The Rink is a 2 vs 2 hockey game in Apple Arcade, that allows players to team up as pairs of players from the NBA, WNBA, NHL, NFL, MLB, and Women’s National Soccer Team.

PATH OF THE WARRIOR

A new VR fighting game, Path of the Warrior was announced for Occulus Quest and Rift. This game is being developed by Twisted Pixel.

NARAKA: BLADEPOINT

NetEase teased a new ninja focused, melee multiplayer game called Naraka: Bladepoint. Along with a trailer, a release date of 2020 was given. Platforms for the title are still unknown.

JOKER: MORTAL KOMBAT XI

The Joker DLC character for Mortal Kombat XI was finally given a release date of January 2020.

MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3 DLC

The second DLC expansion for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Rise of the Phoenix was given a trailer and release date of December 23rd.

FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE

The FFVII Remake showed off a new trailer focused on Cloud Strife’s backstory and motivations.

GEARS TACTICS

Gears Tactics had an extensive gameplay trailer, and was given a release date of April 2020 for PC. It will come to Xbox at a later date.

ORI AND THE WILL OF THE WISPS

Moon Studios’ Ori sequel had a new trailer, and was given a new release date of March 11, 2020.

MANEATER

The open-world shark adventure game, Maneater, was given a new gameplay trailer and a release date of May, 2020.

APEX LEGENDS

The hit Battle Royale game, Apex Legends, announced a new holiday themed event that will run through January 7th.

NO MORE HEROES 3

A trailer for No More Heroes III was revealed, along with a release date of 2020 for Switch.

CYBERPUNK 2077

CD Red showed a behind the scenes sizzle reel of Cyberpunk 2077’s soundtrack.

BEAT SABER GREEN DAY DLC

It was revealed that the hit VR game Beat Saber, would be receiving new Green Day music DLC, along with new ninety- and sixty-degree levels.

HUMANKIND

Humankind, the new RTS from SEGA, had a trailer showcasing the game’s avatar system, emphasizing the importance of player identity and customization.

FORTNITE

The mega hit, free to play sensation Fortnite, teased a new Star Wars event, complete with a cameo from JJ Abrams, teasing new footage and info for Rise of Skywalker for those in game during the event.

WARFRAME

Warframe teased its new PC expansion, Empyrean, and the new Rising Tides update for Xbox One and PS4.

CONTROL DLC

The Expeditions DLC for Control was shadow dropped for all platforms during the Award Showcase.

ELDER SCROLLS ONLINE

The Elder Scrolls Online had a video teasing what’s to come in 2020, including a return to the beloved Skyrim.

Lual Mayan

Lual Mayan, a Sudanese refugee turned game developer, who was spotlighted at last year’s Game Awards, gave an update on the efforts to grow game development in Africa, and debuted his new game Salaam. Salaam is a mobile game placing players in the role of a Sudanese refugee. It is Mayan’s goal that by playing as a refugee, more people will empathize with their plight.
