SQUARE ENIX E3 RECAP

SQUARE ENIX E3 RECAP

Square Enix had a fairly straightforward E3 briefing. With Sony deciding to skip E3 this year, Square took their timeslot. Marvel’s Avengers, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Final Fantasy VIII Remastered were the biggest titles to be shown. The vast majority of the titles shown are coming to PlayStation and/or Nintendo Switch, with a few also getting an Xbox release as well.

MARVEL'S AVENGERS

Marvel’s Avengers had an impressive reveal but the animations on the character faces, and the eerie similarities to Avengers Endgame are off-putting to some. The voice cast is quite noteworthy, featuring game legends such as Nolan North and Troy Baker among them. The announcement of beta coming to PS4 first, and exclusive content to it as well, is sure to annoy fans of other platforms. Overall, this game will be something to keep an eye on, before it launches May 15th, 2020.

FINAL FANTASY

Final Fantasy VII Remake was given extensive gameplay reveal, along with several announcements. This game will be split into at least two parts, with each part being as large as another mainline entry in Final Fantasy series. The first “episode” will take part completely in Midgard. There will be several different versions of the game available to purchase, ranging from a standard edition to a First-Class Edition. While they do not mention it coming to Xbox now, the GameStop leak not long ago would imply that it might be coming to Xbox eventually.

The Final Fantasy VIII Remaster was great to see as well. It’s been something longtime fans have been wanting for years. It was long assumed to be an impossibility do to missing coding, but it would appear that Square found a way to work around that, or maybe even found a master key. This will be coming to multiple platforms. Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles was also given a remaster and will be coming to multiple platforms, as well.

OTHER NEW GAMES

The rest of the announcements included: Dying Light 2, Oninaki, Outriders, The Last Remnant Remastered, Dragon Quest XI, Dragon Quest Builders 2, Kingdom Hearts: Re:Mind, Final Fantasy XV Shadowbringers Expansion, and a few Square Enix Collective titles. The Last Remnant Remastered was already available for PS4, but was given a Switch port, available now. Dragon Quest XI, was also given screen time at Nintendo’s Direct, as well. Kingdom Hearts: Re:Mind is upcoming DLC for Kingdom Hearts 3, and will be releasing later this year. Outriders is a game being developed by the team at People Can Fly, the studio who did Bulletstorm and Gears of War Judgement. The game is an action shooter, with support for cooperative gameplay. It will release summer 2020 on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Oninaki is a brand new JRPG from Tokyo RPG Factory, and releases August 22, 2019.
