Multiplayer games are a great way to spend time with friends and family. Games from the Halo, Gears of War, Borderlands, Mario Party, Smash Brothers, Mario Kart, Call of Duty, Monkey Ball, and other series are often played when groups of gamers are together. The beauty of gaming is that there are many options from which to choose, available to everyone. There are fighting games, shooters, puzzles, racers, platformers, etc. That being said, sometimes people want to play something more akin to traditional party games. For those interested, there are numerous party games available that play more like a video game equivalent to board games, card games, charades, etc. Below, we will showcase a few of these titles.
JACKBOX PARTY PACKS
The Jackbox Party Packs are bundles of games, offering a fun variety of choices. There are currently five Jackbox bundles available, with each bundle containing at least four games to play. Players connect to the game with their phones via wi-fi, and use them as their controller for the game. Each player signs in using the code given on the screen, to join a party with their friends/family. The games vary greatly from bomb defusal squads to internet meme generators. In the five bundles, there is bound to be something fun that everyone can play together.
THAT'S YOU!
A title similar to several of the bundled games in the Jackbox Party pack series, is THAT’S YOU! In this game, players use their phones or tablets to connect to a party via a THAT’S YOU! downloadable app and wi-fi, then embark on a quest full of jokes, drawings, and laughs. This one does have more replayability than some party games, because the quests are different each time, with wide ranging questions and answers, depending on who all is playing. One group of friends will end up with a wildly different experience than another group. The game has players answer questions about themselves and other players, place bottle cap wagers, and compete to see who really knows their friends, and themselves, the best. THAT’S YOU! is a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
HIDDEN AGENDA
Hidden Agenda is another party game that is quite fun, but vastly different from the others. Made by the creative and talented studio behind Until Dawn, Hidden Agenda is a thrilling, interactive story game. Like THAT’S YOU!, players connect to the game via a downloadable app and wi-fi. In this game however, players are not competing against each-other, but collaborating to complete a story. In Hidden Agenda, players are tasked with making decisions that affect the story and lead to different outcomes. The game has high replayability due to the amount of different choices and possible endings for the story. Hidden Agenda is a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
