JAPANESE XBOX STUDIO?

JAPANESE XBOX STUDIO?

Phil Spencer made an interesting remark in an interview with GamesIndustry after E3, which quickly caught the attention of the Xbox Community. He indicated that Xbox would like to buy an Asian studio, especially a Japanese one, saying, ” I think it would be nice if we found an Asian studio, in particular, a Japanese studio, to add to our studios. I liked it when we had some first-party capability in Japan. We have a small team there, but I think we can do more. That said, through our trips to Japan, I love having Phantasy Star back on our stage with Sega – I thought that was fantastic. Miyazaki-san, before with Dark Souls and now having Elden Ring on our stage… the Japanese creators have shown up more and more.” This would be an excellent addition to the First Party stable of studios. One area Xbox has historically struggled in, is getting the attention of Asian markets. Having a dedicated Xbox Games Studio in Asia, particularly Japan, would greatly aid in efforts to build better brand awareness and establish a foothold in the region. Xbox is clearly still looking for studios to join its Xbox Family, with this interview and recent ones done by Matt Booty, Head of Xbox Games Studios, directly alluding to such. The focus is to acquire studios who fit what they are trying to do in regards to vision and culture. Are there studios in Asia or Japan that would make sense? Absolutely there are, the key is convincing them to join.
