HORROR CLASSICS – LAYERS OF FEAR

     Layers of Fear is a well-crafted psychological horror game from Bloober Team. In this title, players assume the role of a painter who suffers from schizophrenia, among other ailments. As the story progresses, it becomes clear that nothing is as it seems, and reality is a figment of his clearly damaged imagination. Auditory hallucinations, feverish visions, and other disturbing sense perversions constantly haunt this tortured artist. While the game is a horror story, it also paints a fascinating picture of the struggles of dealing with grief, guilt, and mental illness. Bloober Team has made a name for themselves as an indie studio, well adapted to bringing depth and substance to scary and uncomfortable settings. Depending on the actions players take, they will end up with one of three endings. Each ending will result in a different painted masterpiece. The Inheritance DLC is an epilogue of sorts, bringing players back to the Manor, this time as the daughter of the previous protagonist. This DLC allows for some closure and helps bring even more backstory to the tragic tale of this family. Layers of Fear is a modern horror classic that deserves attention.
