HORROR CLASSICS – DANTE’S INFERNO

HORROR CLASSICS - DANTE'S INFERNO

While not a horror game in the traditional sense, the incredibly dark and heavy themes, horrifically disturbing visuals, gruesome combat, and overall story of Dante’s Inferno are quite shocking. Based on the first book in Dante’s Divine Comedy, this game follows the story of Dante, a Crusader who has returned home from Jerusalem with bloodied hands, and a tainted spirit. His beloved Beatrice is abducted by the Devil, and Dante makes it is quest to save her soul. On his journey not only to save Beatrice, but also redeem himself, Dante must traverse the Nine Circles of Hell, and ultimately defeat the Devil. Each Circle is horrible in its own way, incredibly created to represent the various Sin of that Level. Combat is brutal and frenetic, greatly mirroring God of Wars 1-3. As an adaption of a classic work of literature, Dante’s Inferno is unique in the video game realm of entertainment. The game is incredibly underrated, and definitely deserves attention. Dante’s Inferno is playable on Xbox One via Backwards Compatibility.

(A warning, however, this game deals with some extremely heavy stuff, and goes all out to make it as uncomfortable as possible, to best represent Dante’s vision of Hell. Unbaptized baby enemies, frequent nudity, and gratuitous displays of gory violence are among just some of the art elements of the title. It is a fascinating game, and excellent representation of a classic literary work, but is definitely not for everyone, and that is absolutely ok. Never let anyone pressure you into playing something that goes against what you believe or makes you feel bad.)
