HORROR CLASSICS – ALIEN ISOLATION

HORROR CLASSICS - ALIEN ISOLATION

Alien Isolation is truly a masterclass in horror. It is simultaneously one of the most terrifying, and frustratingly difficult games I’ve ever played. Seriously, I consider myself to be good at games, and this one soundly kicked my tail for a long time. The Xenomorph is quite possibly the smartest villain AI I’ve ever seen. It’s constantly learning from a player’s behavior pattern and tricks, adapting accordingly for the next encounter. For example, if you use a type of noise lure to distract it a couple of times, the Xenomorph will learn to ignore them and focus its senses elsewhere. With this truly apex predator of immense lethality, you are always on edge, not knowing where to hide. For most of the game, this villain is invincible. Only at the late stages of the game, do you get a weapon with which to fight back (flamethrower.)

The Xenomorph is not the only hostile threat faced in Alien Isolation; ruthless androids, antagonistic humans, and face-huggers are also present. As Amanda Ripley, (daughter of the heroine of the Alien series), you are trapped aboard a space station overrun with chaos. As you fight to repair the station, and endure both terrestrial and extraterrestrial threats, you become a true survivor. The story sets the stage perfectly for a sequel, if SEGA wishes to do so. I consider Alien Isolation a must play for horror fans.
