BETHESDA E3 RECAP
Bethesda had a massive focus on mobile games like Elder Scrolls Blades, which just received a port for Switch, and their newly announced Commander Keane game. Online multiplayer titles had a large presence, as well, with Fallout 76 receiving massive updates and a new Battle Royale mode, and Elder Scrolls: Online receiving its next expansion, Elsweyr. Bethesda did however, have some cool new stuff to show, including new RAGE 2 DLC, briefly shown.
NEW IP
One new title, Death Loop, is an intriguing action game developed by Arkane. In this game, gamers play as two assassins trapped in a time loop, where they must kill each-other over and over again. These assassins each have different characteristics and abilities.
Tango, the studio behind Evil Within, debuted their next game, Ghostwire Tokyo. This is a psychological horror game which obviously, is set in Tokyo. Gamers play as a mysterious warrior with supernatural abilities. There has been an evil, supernatural event causing people to just vanish in Tokyo. One is tasked with fighting the forces of evil, and stopping this calamity.
WOLFENSTEIN
Wolfenstein had a strong presence at the briefing. Youngblood, the cyberpunk styled game focused on BJ’s twin daughters, had new gameplay revealed. Also announced was a VR focused Wolfenstein title. This VR title is about a French hacker who must help disrupt the Nazi war machine.
DOOM ETERNAL
DOOM Eternal had a very extended gameplay reveal and new trailer. If you enjoyed the brutal, up close, gorefest of DOOM 2016, you’re in luck. They’ve taken everything up a notch. Along with new enemies, weapons, and skills, new environments were announced. Earth, Heaven, Hell, and other dimensions will be playable in this game.
ORION
To close the show, Bethesda debuted Orion, their cloud software to aid streaming. They demoed it on stage with a mobile phone and DOOM 2016. The game consistently hit 60fps, and looked great. While the distinctions between Orion, xCloud, and other cloud software is still being determined, I got the impression that this is for a different purpose than xCloud.
