EA PLAY 2020 RECAP

EA Play 2020 was an hour-long stream to introduce new games, and give updates on previously announced titles by EA. The event had a nice, even pace as it gave every game its share of screen time. Fans who were hoping to catch a glimpse of the rumored Remastered Mass Effect Trilogy were left disappointed, but other than that, it had some quality content to show. Below will be a brief recap of things announced during the conference.

APEX LEGENDS:

Apex Legends, EA’s massively popular free-to-play title, revealed Season 5 content and announced that it was coming to Nintendo Switch. Along with these announcements, EA touted that the game will now enable Cross-Play across all platforms.


SIMS 4

The latest title in EA’s long running SIMS series is now coming to Steam.


IT TAKES TWO

Hazelight revealed their newest game, It Takes Two, which focuses on two dolls that magically come to life. This coop platformer will be released in 2021.


LOST IN RANDOM 

Lost in Random, a new title from Zoink Games was revealed during the showcase. This game focuses on a girl and her dice companion as they battle to restore balance in the fantastical world of Random. With clear Tim Burton and Folklore inspirations, this title is both dark and charming. It releases in 2021.


ROCKET ARENA

Rocket Arena, which is a 3V3 Rocket game was announced during the event. This title will release on July 14th, and features a new take on the popular arena genre.


STAR WARS SQUADRONS

Motive Studios debuted the first look at gameplay of their upcoming Star Wars title, Squadrons. This game will have a story campaign where you play as two characters as they rise up the ranks of the New Republic and Empire respectively. Along with the campaign, there is a pretty hefty multiplayer component, including Dogfights (5V5 starfighter fights) and Fleet Battles (featuring all the types of spacecraft in massive battles). This game releases on October 2nd.


EA SPORTS TITLES

EA offered a brief look at FIFA21 and MADDEN NFL21. These titles release later this year.


BRIEF NEXT GEN TEASERS

EA showed a brief sizzle real of Next Gen titles including Battlefield 6, Dragon Age IV, Need For Speed, and Motive’s next project.


7 GAMES ARE COMING TO SWITCH

EA is committed to bringing more of their games to the Nintendo Switch, starting with Burnout: Paradise Remastered and Apex Legends. They stated that five more games will be coming to Switch in the near future.

 

SKATE 4EVER

The cult hit series SKATE was revealed to be finally getting a sequel. EA’s CEO revealed that they had been listening to the massive feedback from fans wanting a new SKATE game, and were happy to announce the next game in the series. After the announcement, the co-creators of the SKATE series hopped on the broadcast and gave thanks to the fans for making this possible. Development is very early for the game, but they are ecstatic to be able to make another SKATE game.
