DARK SIDE OF EXCLUSIVITY

DARK SIDE OF EXCLUSIVITY

Exclusivity rears its ugly head again, hiding a mode for Modern Warfare on PS4 for a year, before allowing it on Xbox. Console exclusive games are an established facet of the industry, but stuff like this puts other console players at a distinct disadvantage. If an Xbox player can’t even have the whole game for a year, why purchase it day one? In the past few years, Activision would create PS4 exclusive missions, weapons, vehicles, etc. for the Destiny series, but this is a dark turn. To take a multiplayer mode away from one player base is bold; and it seems unfair.

Look at the fiasco with Star Wars Battlefront II. EA had made the game a shameless money grab at launch, filled to the brim with pay to win features and locks for characters. It took people scorning the game for them to get the idea, and fix it. Today Battlefront II is a phenomenal game with excellent developer support, but that would never have been the case had players not spoken up. When players speak up, and let companies know how much this matters, it can help. The voice of the consumer is more powerful than ever, with social media platforms being easy channels for direct communication with these companies. If you like something, let them know; give positive feedback. If something troubles you, let them know about that, as well, in the form of positive suggestions. Communication is important in most things, and the video game industry is no exception.
