WORLD WAR Z: GAME REVIEW

WORLD WAR Z: GAME REVIEW

World War Z is a delightfully frantic, and action-packed game based on the world and lore of the novel and movie. World War Z places the player in four different scenarios, happening across the globe. Players will fight the undead legions in New York City, Russia, Jerusalem, and Tokyo, with each situation encompassing different mission parameters and goals. Each scenario involves a squad comprised of four individuals, each with a different story and background.

IF YOU LOVED THE LEFT 4 DEAD SERIES, YOU WILL LOVE WORLD WAR Z

Left 4 Dead is clearly the inspiration for the game, a blueprint they adhere to, but also adapt in new ways. For example, players now have character classes, skills, weapon upgrades, and other things absent from the Left 4 Dead series. Special infected in World War Z are similar to Left 4 Dead, but changed. Instead of Boomers, Smokers, Hunters, Tanks, Witches, Chargers, and Spitters, World War Z has Hazmats, Bulls, Lurkers, Screamers, and Infectors. Hazmats take the role of Boomers, Bulls in place of Chargers, Lurkers replace Hunters, Screamers in leu of Witches, and Infectors resemble Spitters. If you loved the Left 4 Dead series, you will love World War Z. Another similarity between the games, is the implementation of periodic swarms, and the triggered horde fights. The key difference between these in World War Z and Left 4 Dead, is however, the sheer number of infected in World War Z dwarfs the number of enemies appearing on screen at a given time in Left 4 Dead. While swarms and hordes in Left 4 Dead were intense, World War Z definitely takes it up a notch. One other new feature, is the inclusion of a PvPvZ mode. This mode pits player squads against other player squads and the legions of undead, making an already intense affair, that much more insane.

IT'S DEFINITELY A GREAT TIME TO PICK UP WORLD WAR Z

World War Z has many things in its favor, but a couple that are somewhat overlooked, are its price tag and continued updates from the developers. At just $39.99, the game is pretty densely packed for the price tag. The developers have put out several roadmaps detailing planned content coming to the game, free of charge. These updates have included a new mission (Tokyo Cruise Ship), new special infected (Infector), new difficulty setting (six skull) and several quality of life updates. With even more planned content coming to the game in the next year, it’s definitely a great time to pick up World War Z.

Misc. Game reviewed on Xbox One X, visuals and performance are outstanding, sound cues are fantastic as well, clearly playing homage to Left 4 Dead.
